A Place of Waiting

"My soul, wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from him." Ps 62:6 (KJV)

I don't know about you but I have a hard time waiting, especially during those seasons of life that seem to have you at a full stop. For example, those times when God clearly has called you out of a ministry but hasn't given you another ministry to pursue. Or He has opened up all the right doors for you to go in a certain direction, except that last door, and you are left waiting. Or perhaps a prayer request that He has neither answered yes or no but has you waiting on Him.

So you wait, and wait and wait some more. Sometimes the waiting is filled with doubts, fear, loneliness and impatience. Sometimes we try to move ahead on our own, only to have God move us back to a place of waiting.

We often forget that, in some circumstances, waiting is part of the process. Perhaps God needs to prepare, teach, humble or grow us so that we are ready to move ahead. But, for whatever the reason God has us in a place of waiting and we need to trust in His purposes and timing.

We can wait on God no matter what the circumstances for He alone will direct us in the right way to go. God is faithful to keep every one of His promises toward us, even if it feels like the waiting has no purpose. Remember we are in good company. Moses waited until he was ready to be used mightily to set God's people free. Abraham waited for the son of promise. Joseph waited, seemingly forgotten, in prison for God to reveal the purpose He had for him. We can be encouraged to know that not all these always waited patiently, nor did they always do the right things. But in spite of their sometimes rushing ahead God continued working in them as they continued to wait on God.

So if your life seems to be in a place of waiting pray that God would help you see this time through His purposes. Ask Him to help you to understand this time as you wait. And while you wait continue to fully serve God in the little things. Continue to minister to those that God places in front of you today.

Trust me dear one, God does have a plan for you as you wait. So wait with an attitude of worship as God uses this time to prepare, change, renew and purify you so that you are better able to serve where He is about to take you. Wait with  hope and a great expectation knowing that God has a purpose for your life and will work out all things –even the unseen. He is not finished with you just yet.

Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Psalm 27:14 ( ESV)

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; Ps 130:5 (ESV)
